For those of you unfamiliar with Lucky Strike LA, you may wonder why a guitar amp company rolled up for a product demo at a bowling alley. Well my friend, this ain’t your daddy’s bowling alley. This is a dream joint for experiencing live music (often performed by well known artists) while enjoying “hand-crafted libations” and oh yeah… there are some really cool bowling lanes as well. Perhaps a better description: Picture if you introduced a musician’s Ultimate Man-Cave to a posh, Elegant Cocktail Bar & Lounge and they hooked up and had a baby– BOOM! THAT is the Lucky Strike LA.

When James and I wheeled the amps in, I was immediately struck by the intensely cool vibe. Apparently the owner of the Lucky Strike franchise personally selected many of the decor items and materials that make you feel like rock royalty entering your kingdom. A very fitting backdrop for the celebrity artists who have graced the stage at this unique venue.

We were here to see the man responsible for the success of the Lucky Strike LA Live concerts, Barry Point. Besides being the general manager and mastermind behind the venue’s ridiculous line-up of incredible artists, Barry is also a formidable guitar player in his own right. He sometimes performs at LS events and has shared the stage with some noteworthy artists. Yet this unassuming guy is first and foremost a passionate fan of music. Which is quickly evident as he describes some of the shows and artists he was able to bring to the LS stage.

Barry patiently and intently listened as James recounted his story of the founding of Bad Cat Amplifiers, the many well known artists he worked with, and his new vision for Black Wing. Then came the moment of truth. Barry plugged in and cranked up the Screaming’ Eagle. Putting it through it’s paces, from blistering rock notes to soulful blues, while James dialed in different tones and tweaked settings.

Next Barry took the Black Hawk for a spin. He opened it up and it did not disappoint.

After the extended jam session, Barry treated us to a delicious lunch and took us on a tour that included the Private Party Area and the back stage Green Room. Such an impressive venue! We will be back, of that you can be certain.
